Reports: Higher Mango Pricing and Strong Demand Tighten Mango Market; Gary Clevenger Discusses
Demand is booming for mangos, and as growing regions shift, the market is feeling the metaphorical heat. Reports of this market shift recently came down the pipe, as the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) noted mangos are seeing slightly higher prices.
To get a quick overview of the market conditions causing this change, I spoke with Gary Clevenger.
“With mangos in Mexico changing regions, this means that some areas are running low in certain varieties and some areas are not quite ready to harvest yet,” Gary, a Managing Member of Freska Produce International, shared with me.
He also noted the importance of the upcoming Cinco de Mayo holiday and how the uptick in promotional marketing has caused some relative shortage in supply.
“Cinco de Mayo ads are causing market shortages of most sizes and higher pricing. I would expect mid to late May for this to change and have plenty of availability and lower pricing. Quality is excellent, and mangos are more popular than ever,” he continued.
