Gary Clevenger of Freska Produce International Discusses Consumer Trends, Sustainability, and More in Prep for 2026

Recently, Gary Clevenger and I spoke about the strength of its tropical program. Next, we dive into where consumer demand is headed, how investing in sustainability continues to give the supplier an edge, and where it sees itself in 2026.

“Consumers are looking for great-tasting fruit, minimal ingredients, and food they can feel good about, and that’s where our focus is,” Gary, Managing Partner, shares with me. “Fresh mangos and avocados continue to anchor our lineup—both categories built on strong consumer loyalty and versatility—but we’re also seeing exciting growth in naturally dried mango and dragon fruit.”

Dragon fruit is a strong addition to the produce department due to its visual appeal and ability to drive new shoppers to the category. It’s also a favored ingredient in smoothies and fruit bowls and can be enjoyed just as well on its own.

To deliver on the fruit it’s known for, Freska’s focus is simple: consistent quality, dependable supply, and building programs that help its customers grow right alongside it.

“We installed a solar power system at our Nogales, Arizona, facility, which now helps power our cooling and packing operations,” Gary notes. “It’s a meaningful step toward reducing our carbon footprint and running more responsibly. Between our renewable energy, efficient irrigation, reduced waste, and vertically integrated trucking operations, we’re creating a supply chain that’s faster, cleaner, and more sustainable—without compromising on quality.”

The emphasis on quality and supply chain transparency will continue into 2026 as Gary offers me a brief glimpse of the final months of 2025.

“As of late October, Brazil is wrapping up, Ecuador is ramping up, and Peruvian Kent mangos will start shipping in late November. The fruit looks excellent—strong color, great flavor, and promotable pricing heading into the holidays,” he says. "
With steady avocado supply from Mexico and California, and expanding programs in mangos, dragon fruit, and dried mango, I’d say that Freska Produce International is well-positioned for a strong 2026.
